2022 Dental Medical Industry Research Report

Date:2022.12.13

The dental medical industry refers to a medical industry chain based on dental medical consumption, integrating dental medical services, vocational dental education and training, research, development and production of dental medical equipment, market planning, publicity, investment, operation and management. Because of the characteristics of dental diseases, the dental medical industry has its own obvious characteristics while having the common characteristics of the general medical industry.

Economic conditions and life concept have been the important factors restricting the development of China's dental medical industry for a long time. For reasons of ideology and economic conditions, China has not paid enough attention to oral health for a long time in the past, which has resulted in two main consequences: first, the number of patients with oral diseases is high but the rate of seeking medical treatment is low. At present, China has more than 600 million oral patients, the incidence rate is close to 50%, but the rate of seeking medical treatment is less than 5%, and most patients have not been effectively diagnosed and treated; Second, the per capita diagnosis and treatment cost of dental patients is not high. Most patients choose to go to the stomatological hospital for tooth extraction and filling due to pain, which is cheap, low added value and low repeatability.

However, with the continuous growth of the people's economic level, the continuous improvement of the people's awareness of dental prevention and health care, the intensification of the aging population and the loose policies, the dental medical market in China has shown a trend of accelerated development, of which the private dental market has the fastest growth, ushering in a period of opportunity for development.

As shown in the figure below, in the context of demand driven, the scale of China's oral medical service market continues to expand, and is expected to reach nearly 300 billion yuan in 2025. In addition, the expansion of the middle and upper class consumer groups has made the demand for high-end oral medical services continue to grow, and the market for high-end oral medical services is expected to expand. However, the penetration rate of private dental medical services in China is still low. In 2020, the total income of the top five private dental medical institutions will only account for 8.5% of the total market income, which has a large room for improvement.
